What kind of services do you provide?

We can provide: copyediting, proofreading, content editing (not for academic or other assessed documents), fact-checking (not for academic or other assessed documents)
translation from Spanish to English, including:

Editing and proofreading: Why do them?

A piece of text is a lot like a set of clothes: it’s not just about whether they keep us warm or not, but also about how they look, and the impression that they create. The same with text. When tidied up and polished, it will be generally much better received by its readers. Therefore, investment in proofreading and editing is beneficial for the communication process between you and your readers. For example, a well-presented text can add an impression of professionalism and competence.

What is your editing/proofreading philosophy?

We believe that your text is yours. We make the minimum number of changes needed for maximum improvement. Our job is to clean the text up and polish it, but we respect your writing and your voice as it appears in your text. Unless you specifically ask us to, we will not rewrite any part of the content of your text. In fact, third-party proofreading guidelines (such as these University of Auckland and AUT guidelines) explicitly prohibit us from doing so when editing/proofreading assessed academic texts.

What process do you generally use when dealing with clients?

You contact us or email, letting us know your general requirements and sending your text to us as an email attachment
After we have reviewed your text, and based on the outcomes that you want, we will give you a quote based on the estimated time involved with editing your text
We edit the text, communicating with you if clarification is needed
If further changes are required, we make them during a second edit
When the editing is complete, we send the text back to you
We send you an invoice to pay.

What will my finished product look like?

We send you two electronic copies of your text (normally as .doc or .docx, but other formats are also available). One will be a ‘clean’ final version, and the other will contain Track Changes markup, which will show you all the changes that we have made to your text. Comments will also be inserted into this version, if appropriate. For example, if there is some issue that appears noteworthy, we will include a comment discussing it, which you can then review.
